One of the most common questions we get at South Coast Electrolysis is: “How many sessions will I need?” The answer varies based on a few key factors, and understanding these can help set the right expectations for your hair removal journey.
Every Person Is Different
Electrolysis is highly effective, but it’s not a one-and-done solution. Each client has a unique hair growth pattern, hormone balance, and treatment area. All of these affect how many sessions are needed.
The Hair Growth Cycle Matters
Hair grows in three stages: anagen (growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (rest). Electrolysis is most effective during the anagen phase, when the hair is actively growing and still attached to the follicle root.
Because not all hairs are in the same stage at the same time, multiple treatments are required to catch each hair during its growth phase.
What’s a Realistic Outcome?
- Best-case scenario: About 75% of hairs treated will not return
- Worst-case scenario: Roughly 50% of treated hairs will not return
The more consistent you are with your appointments, the better your results will be.
How Often Should I Come In?
Most clients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions. As hair growth reduces, we space the sessions out. Small areas may require fewer sessions, while larger or hormonally active areas (like the face or bikini line) may need more time.
Long-Term Benefits
Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method for permanent hair removal. While it takes commitment, the long-term results are worth it—no more shaving, waxing, or tweezing.
